Guadalupe Island could be the next South Africa or Australia to the world of great white shark
admirers... only better! Optiquatics departs from San Diego, California, which means if you live
in the United States, Canada or Mexico you are going to save big money to a world-class great
white shark destination!
Check out these unbelievable photos from our 2004 trip!
Guadalupe Island
is a geologically amazing destination in very clear water, with an average of 90-foot visibility.
The island lies 210 miles south of San Diego and 150 miles off the Baja Peninsula. The
crossing to get to Guadalupe typically takes about 22 hours.
If you're looking for a destination that offers the possibility of big animals and excitement without all
the travel involved in getting to the Red Sea, Indian Ocean or Western Pacific destinations, Guadalupe
Island is your answer! And the best way to get to Guadalupe Island is by going with Joe Wysocki and
Optiquatics aboard the Horizon, out of San Diego. Our trip will leave early in the morning of the
16th, so we board the boat the night before and wake up on our way to Guadalupe!
We will be diving with Paul "Doc" Anes, owner of San
Diego Shark Diving and his crew. Two 3-person cages are suspended on the surface, tethered to the
stern of the boat. They are deployed early morning and retrieved before dark. Weather permitting the
boat is anchored at one location and remains there for the entire trip as long as the sharks cooperate.
Chumming is continuous throughout the day. This is guaranteed to be a truly great photographic adventure
If you are looking for guaranteed animals, unfortunately we can't do that because we don't control the
sharks or the weather. If you want guaranteed sharks, flat calm warm water, then try the Caribbean. If
you are looking for high adventure, and an electrifying diving experience in the "big pond",
the come along!
We will board the Horizon at 7am on September 15th, and return
between 3and 6pm on September 19th.
Included in the price: Meals, snacks, beverages, weight
belts and weights, Guadalupe Island Biosphere entrance fees and
wristbands.
