Whales and Kayaks in Baja - Oh My!
Baja Natural History Tour
March 16-25, 2008
$3450/pp (aft cabin)
$3250 (bow cabin or dormitory)
Not only is Baja a magnet for underwater photographers and
videographers, but the mix of pinnipeds, sea birds, and whales
(that's right, whales!), makes this a truly unique experience.
Imagine spending two days in San Ignacio Lagoon with migrating
California Grey Whales!! You can kayak around the islands and get to
areas that are inaccessible by land. For those who are interested,
hikes to tide pools, natural wonders and through the exotic
vegetation on these volcanic islands all compliment the activities
on this trip.
Because scuba diving while at the individual islands is also
planned, there are activities of interest to everyone on this trip.
And, as part of the Optiquatics workshop, full photo support -
cameras, processing, and digital equipment - will be available for
underwater and above water activities. The flora, fauna and natural
wonders form an irresistible invitation for photographers of any
interest or specialty.
Board the Horizon in San Diego, and disembark in Cabo San Lucas,
and fly home from there. San Diego to San Diego itineraries are
also available - please
contact us for more details.
This will be a great trip! We hope to see you on board!
Price: $3495 per person. Travel packages available. Let us
know if you want to stay in Cabo for a few days extra!
Special Guest Instructor
Lecturer, undersea journalist, and naturalist are words that
describe the life and career of Andy Martinez. An avid scuba
enthusiast, he began diving back in the 1960’s when equipment
was spartan. But when he discovered the beauty and intricacy of
sea life, he picked up a camera and has never put it down. His images have been published internationally in dive,
travel, and nature magazines as well as nature calendars and
books. He is a regular contributor to Fathoms magazine, and his
book, Marine Life of the North Atlantic, is a virtual photo
bible for anyone wanting to know more about the critters that
inhabit the area along the eastern seaboard from Maine to New
York. He has also co-produced a Canadian guide book on the Gulf
of St. Lawrence which is sure to be as successful as his North
Atlantic book.
His interest in marine life and underwater photography expands
far beyond the northeastern USA into the many islands of the
Caribbean and the Galapagos. And, now, he is headed for the
Pacific coast of Mexico along the Baja Peninsula, where he will
photograph everything from tiny nudibranchs to huge schools of
fish and even the California Grey Whale. Andy is willing to
share with you what he knows about understanding and
photographing these creatures so that you too can come back with
photographic memories to last a lifetime. This is truly a
photographic experience for divers and non-divers alike.
